SCHOOL BUILDINGS GETS A CASHBUILD UPGRADE

Eight schools in Theku Plaza, KwaZulu-Natal were the winners of the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition. The schools each won a Cashbuild building material voucher to the value of R15 000. These vouchers were handed out at the opening ceremony of the refurbished Cashbuild Theku Plaza store on the 17th of April 2019. Two out of the eight school principles are going to spend the vouchers on general maintenance and the building of a much needed kitchen.

Qhubimfundo Primary School and Ezamakhanya Primary School are just two of the eight schools that each received a Cashbuild building material voucher.

Qhubimfundo Primary School's principal, Mr Singh, says the school will be using the voucher to buy paint for the roof, supplies to repair the toilets and concrete for some of the school structures. "We are so pleased as this voucher gives us the opportunity to do some badly needed repairs to the facilities our children use on a daily basis - we can't thank Cashbuild enough."

Mr Ndlangamandla, the principal of Ezamakhanya Primary School said: "We are really grateful for this prize from Cashbuild, as we can now build a proper kitchen." He added that they are currently using one of the classrooms to prepare sandwiches for the children, and having a proper kitchen will be a great help as the school will now be able to offer more than sandwiches to the learners.

At the opening ceremony of the refurbished Cashbuild Theku Plaza store on the 17th of April 2019, when the building material vouchers totaling R120 000 were handed out to the eight winning schools, the children will entertain everyone with singing, cultural dancing and theatrical performances.

The Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition entails learners from each school to submit their best artwork to Cashbuild. This artwork is displayed at the ceremony, and remains on display in the Cashbuild store for the next six years.

The Manager's Choice award was judged and presented to a learner from Ezamakhanya Primary School who was the overall winner of the artwork competition. This award was announced on the day and the winning learner received a stationery pack and a glass trophy. The winner was also given the honour of officially opening the refurbished store.

Since the Art-at-Heart campaign was launched 18 years ago, Cashbuild has helped more than 3 200 schools in Southern Africa with over R40-million worth of building materials. Cashbuild is BEE compliant and every time a store is opened, relocated or refurbished, Cashbuild not only makes donations to local schools, but also creates jobs for community members.

The Art-at-Heart competition is a southern African Cashbuild initiative whereby donations are made to some of the region's most needy schools.
